CATCHING UP WITH THE BROOKLYN COWBOYS
Welcome to the new online home of The Brooklyn Cowboys. I know many of you have wondered what the band has been up to, and I am now pleased to be able to catch y'all up!
We've been on hiatus since 2003, following the release of "Dodging Bullets" and our last American tour, but the individual members have been quite busy in the interim.
Walter Egan has been continuing his always vital solo career, as well as recording and touring with Burrito Deluxe. He spent a few years commuting between Nashville and Washington, D.C. teaching a music business course at his alma mater, Georgetown University, and last year had the unusual pleasure of having one of his hit songs, "Hot Summer Nights", sampled by Eminem for his smash hit, "We Made You", for which he received a writer's credit.
Buddy Cage reformed The New Riders of the Purple Sage with other original member, David Nelson, former Hot Tuna guitarist Michael Falzarano, and Johnny Markowski and Ronnie Penque of Stir Fried, who Buddy played with before The Brooklyn Cowboys. The Riders have been touring relentlessly to large crowds and have recorded some of their best work on "Where I Come From", their latest studio CD, which was released on Professor Louie's Woodstock Records.
Our keyboard player, Michael Webb, just finished a tour with John Fogerty, and is always working with Poco, The Bobby Keyes Band, Fugitive Glue, and Webb Wilder, as well as numerous side projects.
Brian Waldschlager, or just plain Waldschlager, as he's now known, recorded an amazing solo album with Brooklyn Cowboys, Mark Miller and Michael Webb, Nashville guitarslinger, Tim Carroll, and drummer, Craig Wright.
Our 3 bass players have all been keeping busy too. Jeff 'Stick' Davis moved to Indiana to live with his high school sweetheart, and is in demand as a bass player, as always. Michael 'Supe' Grande is still spending his summers with The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, as he has since 1972, has written a book about the band, "It Shined" and got married again, to a Cubs fan! Mark Miller, who toured with us on our last tour, joined BR-549 and has also been touring and recording with Chuck Mead.
I've been buying and selling guitars and other musical gear at my store, Reservoir Music Center, near Woodstock, NY, playing in 5 or 6 local bands, and writing what I consider to be some of the best songs of my career, which I can't wait to record with The Cowboys.
On our last tour, we recorded a live CD at The Mint in LA., which I've been shopping for a label for and hope to see released in the near future.
We'll have email set up on this site very soon, so please keep in touch online.
Regards, Fredro
